GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ogden City Council voted Tuesday night to explore buying the old Taylor Canyon school site so the green space can remain for community play and gathering — negotiations with the school district will soon determine the best use. Neighbors who rallied to protect the space believe this move will help keep the area open for everyone.  FOX 13 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Davis County Health confirmed its first measles case on Dec. 2 and listed Kid Zone in Clearfield, Treehouse Children’s Museum in Ogden, and Walmart Supercenter in Layton as possible exposure sites—unvaccinated residents are urged to get the MMR vaccine.  Gephardt Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • Roy High girls basketball coach Josie Williams led a growing team of 19 in Tuesday’s nonregion game against Morgan, where freshman Lily Solomona scored 14 points—fuelling a hard fight despite the Royals falling 54-41—and Williams said reducing 26 turnovers is key before they host Woods Cross on Friday. This loss marked Roy’s 0-4 start as they work to improve their game.  Standard-Examiner
  • Box Elder girls wrestling won five individual titles at Weber High School this Thanksgiving weekend—scoring 311.5 points to top Tooele and Weber. In other prep sports news, Northridge senior Dontae Dyson flipped his commitment to Utah State while Clearfield and Ogden girls earned wins at Providence Hall, Box Elder boys basketball began the season with three nonregion wins, and the Burchell Classic girls tournament starts on Thursday.  Standard-Examiner
  • Kalani Sitake told people he will stay as head coach of BYU football — and the school is working on a new contract to keep him — while the team will play in the Big 12 Championship Game this Saturday against Texas Tech.  KSL-TV
