  • Ogden officials and GEHA announced on Thursday at Marshall N. White Community Center that the Learn to Swim Program will double in size from serving 300 kids last year to offering free lessons, swimwear + towels to 625 kids next year to boost aquatic safety for local families.  Standard-Examiner

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ogden’s Christmas Village finished second in USA Today’s Best Public Holiday Lights Display contest and surpassed several famous displays. The event features a Santa Run and Holiday Electric Light Parade, and its opening night attracted about 30,000 visitors — a true display of community tradition.  Standard-Examiner

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Bank of America data shows that prices for toys, décor and groceries have risen by 26% and FOX 13 interviewed expert Breanna Skeets on sticking to a budget with methods like the 50-30-20 plan. Locals may also use reusable decorations and gift swaps to manage holiday expenses.  FOX 13 News

  • St. Joseph Catholic improved to 3-3 with a 30-point win, 59-29, against UMA on Friday, Dec. 12 in Riverdale as Chase Fridberg-Gerlich led with 21 points and coach Cole Carpenter aims for the team’s first winning season since 2017. The Jayhawks will host UMA on Dec. 17.  Standard-Examiner
  • Box Elder junior Rhett Richards won his wrestling match with a 10-1 score over Northridge senior Alex Turner on Thursday. The team will host Fremont on Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.  Standard-Examiner
  • Utah football head coach Kyle Whittingham retired after two decades of record-setting leadership, leaving longtime assistant Morgan Scalley as his successor; Whittingham amassed 177 wins and two Pac-12 championships before stepping down on Dec. 12.  KSL-TV
