COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Dec. 4, Ogden resident Jim Ure rode the FrontRunner from Ogden Central Station to Salt Lake Central, paying $5.50 (half-price senior rate) and finding the trip a cost-saving alternative to driving even after a 7-minute delay from a freight derailment; transit officials discussed future fare adjustments for improved service.  KUER

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ogden’s First Friday Art Stroll is set for Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Atlas Tea Company on Washington Blvd + it will feature artwork by Emma Zaugg.  Standard-Examiner

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bill White—owner of the historic Huntsville Trappist Monastery farm—has entered a water banking deal that leases part of his water rights to benefit the Great Salt Lake while saving water for future agricultural use. Legislators like Rep. Koford will propose bills in January to simplify these deals.  FOX 13 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Weber County officials are installing gates at both ends of the North Ogden Divide to temporarily close the roadway during avalanches or dangerous winter weather — work in the Liberty area and on the western side is expected to finish within about a month.  KSL-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Weber State men’s basketball is 6-7 entering conference play after competitive nonconference games showed both strong plays and tight margin losses. Coach Eric Duft said players are learning to manage expanded roles as they prepare for their 2 p.m. New Year’s Day home game + a test against Portland State.  Standard-Examiner
