Flood damage under the cellar has shortened the home’s lifespan and he launched a GoFundMe campaign to repair the support beams and add a ventilation system—hoping to preserve the historic property for another 118 years.
Developers and advocates say that the Olene Walker Housing Loan Fund built more than 27,000 affordable housing units since the mid-1980s but now gives much less money per project—calling on lawmakers to secure a steady revenue source for new builds.
They argue that without more funds, many needed housing projects may not move forward.
