The Daily Ogden team
If you adopt or drop off pets in Davis County, a bigger shelter is on the way. Officials held a groundbreaking Wednesday for a 27,223-square-foot replacement at 1422 E. 600 North. It will stand on the same 12-acre property as the 1985 original.
The new shelter will be more than double the size of the old one

Michelle Hicks, director of Davis County Animal Care, said plans have been in place for about five years. The old building's mechanical systems and air-handling units were deemed unreliable, and it has no room to quarantine sick animals. Last year the shelter took in over 5,000 animals.
- Room for 60 dogs and a separate area for up to 94 cats
- Also planned: exotic animal space, vet clinic, community room
- Kennels: larger and angled, in smaller groups to cut noise
